West & Hide was built around a simple idea: make things worth keeping.
The Craft
Old-School Technique
Specializing in custom, timeless Western hats with classic shapes, West & Hide combines old-school techniques with a deep respect for the craft of hatmaking.
Every hat is made by hand by founder John Esguerra, using materials sourced in the United States and traditional methods passed down through generations of hatters.
No two hats are exactly alike. Each one is carefully blocked, shaped, formed and finished to create something that feels personal — a hat made specifically for you, built to become part of your story.
In His Own Words
I've always been fascinated by the American West.
I grew up drawn to old Westerns, the stories of Bradford Scott, the songs of the Man in Black, and the grit and legend of characters like Doc Holliday. There was something about that world that stayed with me — the independence, the craftsmanship, and the idea that the things you carry with you should have a story behind them.
When I bought my first Western hat, I wanted to understand what made it special.
I became fascinated by the endless possibilities of crown and brim shapes and wanted to learn how to create them myself. When I made my first hat, I realized just how much time, patience, and love goes into the process of blocking and shaping a hat.
I also realized that most people never get to see that side of it.
That's what drew me deeper into the craft. Hatmaking became more than simply making a product. It became a way to bring people into the process — to educate them about the art, help them discover what fits their personality, and create something they can be proud to wear.
I learned from hatters around the world, studied different techniques, and continued developing my own approach. That journey eventually became West & Hide.

The Community
More Than Hats
It's everyday wear, from top to bottom. Accessories, apparel, craftsmanship, and a vision built around creativity and individuality.
But more than anything, it's a community. It's about creating something that makes you feel like you belong while still being completely your own.
It's about the freedom to create, the confidence to be different, and the stories we collect along the way.
Not Disposable
A West & Hide piece isn't meant to be forgotten in the back of a closet.
These are damn fine goods — made to last a lifetime
